I’m your host, Erika Block. I am the clarinet professor at Western Washington University in Bellingham WA and a founding member of the Fifth Inversion wind quintet. I currently perform each summer with the Bellingham Festival of Music, and during the year with the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Northwest Opera and Chamber Music Society.
As a student I had the pleasure of studying with amazing clarinetists such as Gregory Raden, Thomas Martin, and Ricardo Morales. This eclectic combination led me to become passionate about our musical history. I continue to be fascinated by the generations that preceded us and the unique stories they bring.
As season 1 is coming to a close, I am further encouraged by how exciting and important these stories are. Each time I sit down with an artist, I am in awe of their experiences and insights into the artistry, commitment, and passion that goes into our profession. I am extremely excited about the guests for next season and look forward to sharing them with you!
In order to continue to grow as a community we must stay connected with those memories and preserve them for future generations.
I hope you enjoy these conversations, they have been an joy to create.
